Riverside Regional Jail Overview
Riverside Regional Jail is located at 500 FOLAR Trail, North Prince George, VA 23860. It is operated by the Riverside Regional Jail Authority and serves seven member localities: Charles City County, Chesterfield County, Prince George County, Surry County, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, and Petersburg. That regional structure matters. A search for a Prince George County inmate population record may find a person held in the same facility as inmates from several neighboring localities, so the jail population should not be read as a Prince George-only count.
The jail is an adult local and regional facility. The research record describes pretrial detainees, locally sentenced inmates, state-responsible jail populations, and possible contract or federal/immigration categories when accepted by the authority. Riverside is not operated by the Prince George County Sheriff's Office, although the Sheriff's Office is custody-adjacent through court security, civil and criminal paper service, inmate transportation, extraditions, home incarceration, and courthouse duties. For jail records and inmate services, the Riverside Regional Jail Authority is the direct facility source.
Riverside Regional Jail Capacity and Population
Public figures for Riverside should be used with source context. VPM reported on May 20, 2024 that Riverside had capacity for approximately 1,500 incarcerated people and about 400 staff. Older RRJ procurement material listed main-facility FY2018 average daily population at 1,538, with possible ADP over 1,600. The RRJ FY2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, summarized in the research file, reported that total average daily population increased by about 78 inmates, or 7.56%. Those are regional jail figures, not a separate count of Prince George residents or Prince George arrests.
How to Look Up an Inmate at Riverside Regional Jail
The official public search path is the Riverside Regional Jail inmate lookup, which redirects to the DSI-ITI Inmate Lookup Tool at the IML search form. The tool is free, does not require a login, and supports two search routes. A name search accepts first name, last name, and date of birth. An identifier search can use booking number, permanent number, state ID, county ID, FBI number, or ICE number. Use the released-inmate checkbox when a person may have bonded out, finished a short stay, or moved quickly after booking.
- Open the RRJ inmate locator from the official jail site or go directly to the IML search form.
- Search by first name, last name, and optional date of birth, or use the identifier search if you have a booking or permanent number.
- Check whether the result is a current inmate or a released inmate by reading the release-date column.
- Click the live result row for profile details, but verify fields directly because the research only confirmed the results table.
The successful Riverside image in the project manifest is the official IML inmate database search interface, showing the name, date-of-birth, and identifier search boxes used for Riverside records.
This form is the right starting point for Riverside Regional Jail custody and recently released records, but it is not the VADOC state prison locator or the federal BOP locator for FCI Petersburg Low and Medium.
Riverside Regional Jail Address and Contact
Use the main jail contact for custody confirmation, visit logistics, and facility routing that is not visible in the public search. The same FOLAR Trail address is also used for RRJ FOIA contact mail through Lt. C. Jones, Office of Professional Review. The research also notes a June 29, 2026 elevator-modernization notice: people needing elevator access at the main entrance were directed to contact Master Control upon arrival at (804) 524-6602. Treat that as a dated accessibility detail and confirm before travel.

Visiting Someone at Riverside Regional Jail
Riverside visitation is scheduled online through the jail's visitation portal and ICSolutions path. The official rules are housing-unit specific, so a visitor should not rely on a general weekend schedule. RRJ warns that if the online system allows a day or time that is not on the published housing-unit schedule, the visitor can still be turned away. Visitors should arrive at least 15 minutes early; being more than 15 minutes late for a regular scheduled visit means denial. Visitor parking is on the right side of the lot when facing the facility.
Visitors need valid federal, state, or passport photo identification with date of birth, except for minors. A visit may have no more than three visitors for one inmate, and no more than two of the three may be minors. Minors must be with a parent, guardian, or responsible adult and must be listed on the scheduled visit. All visitors and personal effects are subject to search, and all persons age 13 and older are subject to body scan search unless a pregnancy or medical condition prevents scanning and staff is notified.
| Visit Type | Hours or Timing | Type |
|---|---|---|
| On-site RRJ visit | Published housing-unit calendar controls; examples include 0800-0845 through 1600-1645 slots | Scheduled online |
| Remote/video visit | Schedule at least one day and not more than seven days ahead; brochure listed 15 minutes at $6.00, with current prices subject to portal updates | Online video |
| Professional visit | First-come, first-served after credential verification; same-day remote visit phone route is (804) 524-6600 ext. 6020 | Attorney, probation, parole, professional |
Mail, Phone, and Money at Riverside Regional Jail
Riverside uses different addresses for personal mail and legal mail. Since May 22, 2023, personal and nonlegal mail has been processed by a third party and delivered digitally through tablets, with paper provided if the inmate lacks tablet access. Legal mail goes directly to the jail at the North Prince George address. Phone, tablet, text, photo-sharing, and internet visitation are tied to ICSolutions and GettingOut services. Commissary and deposits run through Keefe Commissary Network, Access Corrections, lobby kiosks, mail, and in-person deposit routes.
| Service | Provider / Detail |
|---|---|
| Personal Mail | Riverside Regional Jail VA, inmate full name and ID number, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131 |
| Legal Mail | Riverside Regional Jail, inmate name and ID, 500 FOLAR Trail, North Prince George, VA 23860 |
| Phone / Tablets | ICSolutions; inmates receive free calls at incarceration and two free calls per week |
| Money Deposit | Keefe / Access Corrections / lobby kiosk; online fees apply and RRJ says cash lobby kiosk deposits have no fee |
Booking and Intake at Riverside Regional Jail
For a Prince George County arrest, the usual path is arrest or warrant service, transport, magistrate or court review for bond and commitment, and placement at Riverside if detention is ordered. RRJ intake creates the local booking record. The public lookup results observed in research showed inmate name, booking number, permanent ID, date of birth, and release date. New bookings may not appear instantly, and the research did not find an official update interval for the IML page. If a recent arrest is missing, retry the lookup, call the main RRJ number, check Virginia courts, or use the FOIA route.
Do not treat commissary deposits as bond. No official RRJ bond-payment page or accepted-payment schedule was located in the research. Confirm bond amount, bond type, and accepted payment method with RRJ or the appropriate court before traveling. Prince George General District Court handles misdemeanors and felony preliminary hearings, while Circuit Court handles felony cases punishable by state penitentiary commitment and misdemeanor appeals.
About Riverside Regional Jail
Riverside's own facility material emphasizes a direct-supervision model, where officers supervise housing pods and work among inmates without a fixed barrier. That explains why jail operations and visit schedules are organized around housing units and pods rather than a simple single-day public schedule. The jail reports continuous American Correctional Association Adult Local Detention Facility accreditation since 2002, 2025-2027 reaccreditation with 100% mandatory compliance and 99% nonmandatory compliance, and National Commission on Correctional Health Care recognition in June 2021.
Records requests that are not available in the public locator should be routed by custodian. RRJ booking and custody records start with the RRJ FOIA contact. Prince George Sheriff's Office records, Prince George Police incident reports, and court records follow their own agency paths. Virginia FOIA requires reasonable specificity and allows costs and exemptions, including law-enforcement limitations. Adult booking photographs may be public records under the Virginia FOIA Advisory Council opinion, but release can be delayed or withheld if a felony investigation would be jeopardized.
Note: Confirm custody, visit approval, schedule, parking, and accessibility details with Riverside Regional Jail before traveling to FOLAR Trail.
